In a case that spotlights the dangerous consequences of unsecured borders and lax immigration enforcement, three illegal foreign nationals from Colombia were recently captured after a string of high-end residential burglaries across multiple states — including a brazen home invasion in Weddington, North Carolina.
According to a statement from the Union County Sheriff’s Office (UCSO), the trio — Joiner Jhosuet Cortes Morales, Terry Stiven Cajamarca-Grijalba, and Cristian Hernan Pirajan-Rivera — were apprehended “Tuesday evening in Columbia, South Carolina” after weeks of intensive investigation and multi-agency cooperation.
The incident that triggered the operation occurred on February 2, 2025, when deputies “responded to a call for service involving an active break-in at a residence within the Highgate neighborhood.” While the suspects managed to flee before law enforcement arrived, detectives immediately launched an investigation. Their persistence paid off.
“These arrests are the result of weeks of dedicated investigative work involving multiple law enforcement agencies at the local, state, and federal levels,” the release stated.
Each of the suspects has “a criminal history spanning multiple states and is wanted for numerous burglary-related offenses across the United States.” They're currently held at the York County Detention Center in South Carolina with $300,000 secured bonds, and ICE has issued detainers against all three. Authorities added that “each offender will face extradition to other jurisdictions where they are wanted for additional crimes.”
But the most shocking detail is not just that these men were burglars — it’s who they were working with. The suspects were identified as part of a “well-organized, transnational criminal enterprise commonly referred to as the ‘South American Theft Group.’” According to law enforcement, this group “is composed primarily of individuals who enter the country illegally with the intent to commit property crimes, primarily high-end residential burglaries.”
Let that sink in.
These are not hardworking immigrants seeking opportunity. These are criminal infiltrators. They didn't sneak across our border in desperation; they did it with purpose — a purpose that included ransacking American homes and tearing apart the sense of safety and stability that should define our neighborhoods.
Sheriff Eddie Cathey rightfully commended the collaborative effort behind the arrests. “These arrests are a direct result of determined, coordinated law enforcement efforts across multiple jurisdictions. Our investigators, alongside our law enforcement partners, have worked relentlessly to identify, track, and apprehend these dangerous criminals.”
But what Sheriff Cathey didn’t say — and what must be said — is this: These men should never have been here in the first place.
Their mere presence in this country is an indictment on our broken immigration system, our porous borders, and the willful blindness of those who continue to pretend illegal immigration is a harmless administrative issue rather than a public safety crisis.
These were not isolated actors. They are part of a growing, emboldened wave of transnational criminal activity that thrives precisely because our political leaders refuse to enforce the law. These criminals exploit sanctuary policies, loophole-ridden visa systems, and the hesitancy of officials to speak plainly about the threat posed by illegal aliens.
It’s time to stop pretending this is about compassion. Let’s talk about justice — justice for the homeowners whose doors were kicked in, whose privacy was violated, and whose peace was shattered.
Justice demands borders.
Justice demands consequences.
Justice demands that illegal alien criminals are not just caught, but never allowed in again.
Until then, expect more of these stories. Because when the rule of law is ignored at the border, it eventually comes crashing through the front door.
