Supreme Court to Decide Planned Parenthood's Fate in SC Medicaid Funding Case
The Supreme Court has agreed to hear Kerr v. Edwards, a case that could deal a devastating blow to Planned Parenthood's blood-soaked business of abortion. The case hinges on South Carolina’s decision to cut Medicaid funding to Planned Parenthood, a move that should have happened long ago. South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster directed the state's Department of Health and Human Services to end the state's Medicaid agreements with Planned Parenthood South Atlantic, effectively defunding an organization that has been nothing but a tool for the abortion industry.
In 2018, the state took action, rightly concluding that taxpayers should not be forced to fund an organization that actively promotes the murder of the unborn. Planned Parenthood operates two facilities in South Carolina, pushing its death agenda under the guise of providing healthcare services, including physicals, cancer screenings, and contraception. But let's not kid ourselves—this isn't about providing care; it's about raking in profits by killing children. Federal law may restrict Medicaid funding for abortions except in cases of rape, incest, or to save the mother’s life, but Planned Parenthood has made it clear they care little for the law when it comes to making money off of abortion.
The abortion giant sued the state, aided by one of its patients, Julie Edwards, claiming that the Medicaid Act's "any-qualified provider" provision guarantees the right to choose any provider, including abortion clinics. This argument is as absurd as it is dangerous. No one should be forced to fund murder, especially not with their hard-earned tax dollars. Yet, despite this glaring truth, the lower courts sided with Planned Parenthood, with a federal district court blocking South Carolina’s decision and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals affirming it. The courts have so far ignored the overwhelming moral weight of this case, choosing to support a multi-million-dollar organization that profits from death over the lives of the unborn.
Now, the Supreme Court will finally have the opportunity to weigh in. The central question is whether the Medicaid Act really gives Medicaid beneficiaries the right to choose their provider, even if that provider is Planned Parenthood, which has built its empire on abortion. If the Court sides with Planned Parenthood, it will be an endorsement of the abortion industry's grotesque profiteering. It will send a message that taxpayer money can continue to flow into an organization that destroys the most innocent and defenseless among us—our children. States will have no power to defund abortion providers, and the abortion industry will be free to keep bleeding the public dry while carrying out its grisly work.
A victory for South Carolina, however, could send shockwaves through the abortion industry. If the Court rules that states have the authority to cut off funding to Planned Parenthood, it will be a massive step in dismantling the financial lifeline of the abortion industry. It would allow other states to follow South Carolina’s lead, pulling taxpayer money from organizations like Planned Parenthood, and force the abortion industry to stand on its own two feet—without the government handouts that keep it afloat. A ruling against Planned Parenthood would be a direct hit to the heart of the abortion lobby, a clear message that public money should not fund the destruction of innocent life.
Planned Parenthood has fought tooth and nail to maintain access to government funds. The organization's defenders are quick to claim that cutting off funding will harm women, particularly those in low-income communities. But this is a lie designed to distract from the real issue. There are plenty of other providers who offer the same services without engaging in abortion. The claim that women will suffer without Planned Parenthood is nothing more than a smokescreen, a ploy to keep the money flowing into their coffers. The truth is, Planned Parenthood doesn't care about women's health—it cares about its bottom line, and its bottom line thrives on the deaths of babies.
This case is about more than just Medicaid. It’s about the right of taxpayers to not be complicit in the murder of the unborn. It’s about whether we, as a society, are willing to let Planned Parenthood continue to profit from death at the expense of the innocent. It’s about whether we will allow our money to fund the systematic destruction of life, or whether we will stand firm in our commitment to protecting the unborn.
If the Supreme Court rules in favor of South Carolina, it will be a victory for life, for taxpayers, and for those who believe in the sanctity of every human being, regardless of age or size. But if the Court sides with Planned Parenthood, it will be a betrayal of our most basic moral principles—a license to continue killing for profit. Regardless of the outcome, one thing is clear: the fight to stop the abortion industry will continue, and Planned Parenthood’s days of thriving off of our taxpayer dollars may soon be over.
